The author of the project, cosmonaut pilot, Hero of Russia Alexander Lazutkin, suggests that students of technical specialties and young specialists of rocket and space industry enterprises get to know the "cosmonaut" profession in practice, go through the path from selection to virtual space flight themselves, and go through the main stages of cosmonaut training. The project participants are provided with theoretical training in the field of cosmonautics, physical training developed in accordance with the requirements for applicants to the Russian cosmonaut corps, psychological testing and medical examination, guided tours to enterprises of the rocket and space complex and to cosmonautics museums, the "Survival" program in the taiga area, skydiving and special training in The Cosmonaut Training Center on "Soyuz" spacecraft simulators and on the CF-18 centrifuge. The project participants conduct scientific research in the field of astronautics and defend their project. The "Space Odyssey" project was included in the top 100 best projects in Russia supported by the Presidential Grants Fund in 2024.
The goal is to select the most motivated, healthy, physically and intellectually developed young people who are ready to devote their lives to cosmonautics or join the Russian cosmonaut corps.
