Star Relay Final: 150 young space explorers to meet in Korolev and Moscow

Star Relay Final: 150 young space explorers to meet in Korolev and Moscow

The Star Relay is an event for those children who dream of space and want to showcase their talents in science, technology, art or literature. The works and projects of the participants are evaluated by professional astronomers, space-related artists, designers, animators, employees of various enterprises in the space and aviation industries. The program of the "Star Relay" is based on three key aspects:
  • transfer of knowledge about rocket science, satellites and interplanetary missions to schoolchildren;
  • formation of a conscious interest in the history of Russian cosmonautics and pride in the achievements of the country;
  • demonstration of skills in demand in the industry and assistance in building a career trajectory for future specialists.

The competition has been held since 2003 under the auspices of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center to involve children in scientific and technical creativity related to space research. The "Star Relay" is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first human spacewalk and is dedicated to the memory of Galina Ermolenko, a teacher and co-author of the competition, after whom the asteroid of the main asteroid belt 545985 GALINAERMOLENKO (2011 VW10) is named.

The final will be held from April 14 to 17: in the Children's Technopark "Kvantorium" MBUDO "Orbita" in the science city of Korolev, the children will present their works and projects in full-time defense, and the winners will be announced at the Moscow Palace of Pioneers. The organizers strive to make the process of defending works and projects as comfortable as possible for the finalists, so that each work has time to receive feedback from experts and advice, and not just evaluation according to criteria.

Participants are expected:
  • Project defense in 5 sections: scientific and technical, astronomical, artistic, literary and journalistic, medical and biological.
  • Excursions to the enterprises of RSC Energia.
  • Informative and fascinating lectures from space industry experts.
  • A solemn awarding ceremony with the presentation of prizes from partners.

The Frontiers of Science Guild, the main sponsor and partner of the competition, is also responsible for holding the final of the competition, examining design works and providing prizes for winners and prize—winners. Media and public projects are among the key areas of the Guild's work, which focuses on the popularization of science and technology.

"Involving people in various projects and popularizing science and technology help create conditions for the discovery of talents, including very young ones, who will be able to prove themselves in the space industry in the future," says Ilya Chekh, founder of the Frontiers of Science Guild. "We invite everyone who shares our ambitions, from volunteers to corporations, to join forces to solve problems that define the scientific and technological landscape not only in Russia, but also around the world." The organizers of the event are the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, ANO Center for Engineering, Space and Natural Science Education, children's technopark "Kvantorium" MBUDO "Orbita". The partners are Roscosmos Group of Companies, the engineering and methodological company Education of the Future, the Federal Center for Additional Education and Recreation for Children, and the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Circle Movement.
